Collegespeaks is out to empower the view of students studying in the college and its alumni like never before, and is giving them a platform where information can be generated about various aspects of the college in a systematic and useful form.
On the other hand, Collegespeaks is giving all colleges a technical muscle by bringing them to a platform where they can talk about the various offerings of the colleges and very effectively communicate with not just their existing students but also aspirants and alumni.
Collegespeaks is a Web 2.0 platform which lets organizing information around a college in an extremely easy and useful manner. From course search to finding the right college, first hand information about colleges to upcoming event in colleges, Collegespeaks aims to serve as one-stop website for everything about higher education presented in a manner that makes it extremely easy for everyone to benefit.

| How does the business make money? |
Collegespeaks has some exciting revenue models in place, the first of them being revenue from colleges for subscribing to the College Corner section. The College Corner enables them to update their website and communicate with students. The website has a lot of sections in making and some of them will be sponsored by various organizations who want to target youth for promotion since the site uniquely brings all the Colleges under their course specific batches et al.
There have already been many inquiries for advertising on the website. We have also received enquiries from big brands like ibibo and Zapak, though we are not in a hurry to build on the advertisement model.
We also plan to have a franchisee model in future to give a boost to our marketing and at the same time receive local advertisements, useful to students, which could be displayed based on location and user interest. Our prime focus is to establish a strong user base clubbed under their respective colleges. |

Isn't looking for a college and finding more about it including the infrastructure, faculty and at times even the courses they offer extremely painful and difficult? Students try to Google-it and most of the times they find the college websites that are seldom updated and many a times even locating the right contact number becomes difficult.
Leaving aside the top tier colleges in India whose rankings and information is readily available, it is the second and third tier colleges in small and growing metros for which finding information is strenuous. And this is where a major chunk of the student population lands. Today, when education industry is booming with many new colleges coming up every year, it is even more important to have a platform where both students and colleges can share information and interact with each other. Collegespeaks thus serves as the virtual brochure by giving a Web 2.0 platform for both colleges and students making it easier for both to share views and information.
The Ultra "Hot Factor" is that we are trying to build this in a way that it becomes the home page for every college going student in the country. Just the way a person creates his email IDs joining an organization, students would create their Collegespeaks ID when they join a college and this will help them be a part of the campus, know what's going on, add what they have to say about it, collaborate on projects within the site, etc !!

| What keeps the team awake at night? |
I think it's the thrill to be able to do so much to empower students view in a manner that everyone can benefit from. Everyday brings a fresh lot of challenges for start-ups. We had a great idea to bridge a serious gap, but giving it a structure and layout was challenging.
We wanted a course based search on the site which required a well-built architecture of colleges and course information. With a wide variety of courses being offered and an increasing number of vocational courses in demand, we wanted these to be categorised according to their level, course, specialisation and even the mode of learning.
Most importantly, we wanted to present this information on a layout which would be cool, easy to use and non-cluttered. There were challenges and they made it even more exciting to think up solutions. The response that we have received from our members further stimulates us to take on the challenges head-on.The networking aspect in education is just nascent and the possibilities unlimited.
There is so much more that can be done to structure and organize the educational institutes in India, to ensure that every student has complete information related to any college he/ she would like to join, compare them on various parameters, to help students with academics/ projects etc. This is where the fun lies! And we are passionate about bringing all this together on one common platform and really making a difference. |
